- מפלגת הפיראטים הברלינאית לקחה את עצמה מראש כניסוי פוליטי. השיטה צעירה וחסרת הוכחת יכולת:
- "Eating your own dog food - you're creating something and so you try it out on yourself firts. And that's what pirates are doing. They are aware that other people aren't ready to use system like that, and the system isn't neccesarily ready to be used at that level either. But that is the end goal, in theory"

- בהתאם לכך, ההצלחה של הפיראטים נשענה על התסכול מהשיטה הקיימת, לא על האמון ביכולתם להביא לשינוי:
- All over Europe, new, leftfield (and sometimes rightwing) political parties are being taken seriously at the ballot box. Each has wildly different obsessions. The one thing they all share is the idea – being played out very visually in the occupations in Wall Street, London and Frankfurt – that the established way of doing politics is not working.

- הצלחה כזו היא מה שמכנים בזילזול "מפלגת אוירה". ההצלחה של מפלגת אוירה כזו ממילא אינה מובטחת לאורך זמן, אלא דורשת עבודה קשה מאוד בקדנציה הראשונה כדי לבנות אמון, ואז המוניטין ל"יכולת לייצר ערך פוליטי" תבוא מתוך ההישגים שתצליח המפלגה להראות לאחר הקדנציה הראשונה בתוך המערכת.
- כשלון בקידום אג'נדה. בקמפיין הבחירות, הפיראטים הבטיחו תחבורה ציבורית בחינם, ברית זוגיות לשלושה או יותר שותפים רומנטיים, שהמדינה תממן "הבטחת הכנסה" קבועה לכל אזרח, בין אם הוא עובד ובין אם לאו ושקיפות שלטונית מלאה (pidd (2011)):
- The Pirates were elected on a manifesto of largely fantastical ideas. They promoted free public transport for all in perennially broke Berlin, civil partnerships for three or more people and a universal state income for those in and out of work, for example – as well as a firm and demonstrable commitment to transparency. Those who voted for them are unlikely to have ever believed their utopian dreams would ever become reality.
- אבל עם 8.9% מהפרלמנט, הם כשלו בקידום הנושאים הללו. נכון שמעט מאוד האמינו שאכן הם יצליחו לקדם את הנושאים הללו, אבל בסופו של דבר הבוחר הבין שהכח הפוליטי שניתן לפיראטים פשוט לא הצליח להשיג הישגים. אם היו הפיראטים מצליחים לקטוף אפילו מעט מהפירות הנמוכים, אולי הם היו מקבלים את האמון לקדנציה נוספת.
- הקושי לנהל מו"מ קואליציוני, בין אם ברמת הקדנציה כולה ובין אם ברמת חוק בודד. בגלל אופיה של המפלגה הדורש שקיפות מלאה, "דילים" יכולים להסגר רק כאשר הדיון הקואליציוני הוא בדלתיים פתוחות מול עשרות אלפי חברי המפלגה. זה הקשה עליהם למנף את הכח שעמד לרשותם כדי לרקום שותפויות פוליטיות.
- מחסור במנגנון ליישוב סכסוכים פנימיים. גרם לסכסוכים להגיע לתקשורת וכך למתג את המפלגה כעוסקת בענייני פנים-מפלגה במקום בנושאים בעלי חשיבות לאומית. בין היתר התנהלו סכסוכים בנושאי ימין-שמאל כלכלי, מגדר, קבוצות קיצוניות ועוד:

What scandals and disputes? Can we have names, details, and so on? - There isnt a single large event which can be named. It is a more a large number of incidents. Basically the party engaged in lots of internal disputes about its position - be it economy (leftist vs liberal), the dealing with extremist members, gender-debates, relations to other parties or general personal disputes between members. However due the nature of the party those conflicts were carried out in the open - Twitter, Internet-forums, blogs etc. This was frequently picked up by the media. Given the very informal character of such internet-disputes, the party was labeled as very unproffessional and immature. The party was perceived as beeing more pre-occupied with itself than with the real pressing issues. As result the polls dropped and they gained only ~2% in the latest elections. Regarding Schlömer, he wants "to make place for younger people", given the timing its obv due the bad elections result in the federal election. The party still had somehow hoped for enogh votes to enter the parliament, despite the devastating pre-election polls. StoneProphet (talk) 08:24, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
